On a wedding day the couple is busy from morning to night, and the portraits are often the first thing to be squeezed out. That is a pity, because these are the photographs you will look at the most. Good wedding day couple portraits need only thirty to forty minutes, but they need to be planned. This is how we do it at Indore weddings.
Choose the time of day
Soft light makes the difference. For day weddings, late afternoon is ideal. For evening weddings, we use the time before the ceremony, when both of you are dressed and fresh. Ask your planner to keep this slot clear and protect it from other rituals.
Pick two or three spots
A good portrait session does not need ten locations. Choose a corner of the venue with pleasant light, a quiet spot away from guests and maybe one interesting background such as a door, a garden or a corridor. We will scout the venue when we arrive.
Keep the group small
- Only the couple, the photographer and one helper for outfits.
- Family and friends wait elsewhere, so you can relax.
- Bring water, a small mirror and any touch-up items your makeup artist suggests.
Move naturally
Stiff poses look stiff. We give small prompts such as walking slowly, whispering something to each other or adjusting a dupatta, and the best frames usually come between the prompts. Take a breath, smile and enjoy the quiet.
Plan for the outfit
Check the bride’s outfit for trail and the groom’s for length so you can both move easily. A helper to arrange the dupatta and lehenga saves time and keeps the frames tidy.
