Pre-Wedding Shoot Location: How Indore Couples Can Choose One That Fits Them

Most couples ask us, “Where should we shoot?” before they have answered a simpler question: what are the two of you like when nobody is watching? A pre-wedding shoot location is not a backdrop you pick from a list. It is the place where you will have to be yourselves for three or four hours, in front of a camera. Pick a place that fights your nature and it shows in every frame.

So instead of a list of venues, here is how we help couples in Indore choose by temperament. Find yourselves in one of these, and the shortlist gets much shorter.

The couple who hates posing

If you freeze the moment a lens points at you, avoid open, empty places where you have nothing to do. Choose somewhere with something to touch and walk through: the lanes around Rajwada, a market street early in the morning, an old courtyard. Walking, holding a cup of chai, looking at a building together – that movement is what gives us relaxed pictures. Our pre-wedding photography sessions with shy couples almost always start in a lane, not on a lawn.

If you want a place in the city to begin with, Rajwada is the obvious one. The old palace facade, carved doors and pillars give a shy couple something to look at besides the lens.

Two more city options: Lal Bagh Palace, with its grand facade and gardens, for a palace look without leaving Indore, and the Krishnapura Chhatris, the Holkar memorials, for carved stone and a quiet mood.

The couple who wants a royal, filmy look

Heritage architecture does the heavy lifting here. Palaces, chhatris, arched corridors and stone courtyards around Indore, and further out at Mandu or Maheshwar, suit couples who want a film-still feeling. The trade-off is that heritage sites have their own timings, crowd levels and rules about shooting. Ask before you plan a costume change or a prop, and keep outfits simple enough that the building stays the hero.

Mandu (Mandav) is the classic choice for a heritage shoot, with its arches, domes and stone corridors. It is a full day out from Indore, so plan the trip around the light. Maheshwar, on the Narmada, suits a softer, quieter version of the same look, with palace steps and carved arches.

If you are already in Mandu, ask us about Sunset Point for an evening landscape frame.

The couple who loves the outdoors

If you would rather be on a drive than in a mall, think water, hills and open land. The countryside around Indore, a lake edge, a hill road at sunrise. Here the light is the real location. An early start gives soft, directional light and fewer people. A midday start gives hard shadows and sweat. Be honest about whether you can wake up at 5 AM, because that decides how good these pictures get.

Around Indore, Lotus Valley at Gulawat gives you water and boats, Chidiya Bhadak on Khandwa Road gives you rocky ground and a stream, Ganga Mahadev gives you a waterfall, and Jaam Gate near Mhow gives you a hilltop with a gateway. Each one is a different mood, so choose the one that matches the story you want to tell.

Two more names for nature lovers: Ralamandal, the hilly forest area on the edge of Indore, and Patalpani waterfall, which looks best in the green season. Be careful near any waterfall or slope in the rains, and go only where it is safe.

The couple who wants it private and calm

Some couples simply do not want a crowd watching them. A private resort, a farmhouse or a quiet home setting can give you a clean, unhurried session. It costs more than a public place, so ask what is included, whether outside crews are allowed, and how long you can stay. A calm place also means we can try a slower, more emotional set of frames, not just poses.

For an indoor or private setting, the film-city sets near Indore, such as Film City Indore at Hatod and Alankrrit Filmcity, offer ready-made rooms and street sets, so weather does not matter. Resorts like Nammadus Water Front Resort, Neertaru Resort & Wellness in Mhow, Lotus by the lake and Crescent Spa & Resort are also used for shoots. Always confirm permission for your exact shoot with the property first.

The couple who wants a story, not a shoot

This is our favourite kind. You may meet at a coffee shop, you may have grown up in the same neighbourhood, or you may love a particular street. Shoot there. A location that means something to you beats a famous one every time, and it gives the wedding film and album a thread to follow. Tell us the story and we will plan the route around it.

Three questions to settle before you finalise

  • How far are you willing to travel, and will the travel tire you out before the shoot starts?
  • Will your outfits, jewellery and shoes work in that place, on that surface and in that weather?
  • Who else will be there on the day – tourists, school groups, other shoots?

A note on permission and safety

Public does not always mean open for photography. Some places need permission, some charge a shoot fee, and some are unsafe in the rains. Confirm the rules directly with the place or with your photographer, and never stand near a slippery edge or deep water for a picture. A good frame is never worth a fall.

Let us help you choose

If you are still torn between two or three places, send us your outfits, your dates and a line about how you two behave together. We will tell you honestly which one suits you. You can read a little about how we work, check the FAQs, or just get in touch and we will take it from there.
